INSPIRE Fellows

The INSPIRE Fellowship is a unique opportunity for early to mid-career faculty to collaborate closely with geoscience researchers at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.  The overarching goal is to build robust collaborations that result in papers and proposals led by the Fellows.


Program Benefits

  • Lead co-developed research at your home institution with collaborative support of Lamont-Doherty researchers
  • Receive $15,000/yr stipend for each year of the 2-year program 
  • Connect with a network of peers and become an integral part of the broader Lamont and INSPIRE community
  • Build relationships via reciprocal visits to promote community and share knowledge (with logistical support from INSPIRE Office)

Eligibility

  • Early to Mid Career Faculty (Assoc/Asst level)
  • Based at underrepresented designated institution such as Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) or Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
  • Ongoing Research in earth and space sciences or climate related field
  • Candidates from any department can apply
  • Only U.S. citizens and legally admitted permanent resident aliens are eligible (in conformance with National Science Foundation policy)

The research statement should not exceed three pages including figures and references, and should include the following elements:


  1. Your general research interests and goals
  2. The potential benefits of collaborating with a Lamont scientist
  3. How this opportunity will enhance your ability to build new collaborations, develop proposals and submit publications
  4. How you anticipate INSPIRE may impact your students, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM, and/or your institution
